No. CandleLogic does not use lead wicks. Lead-based wicks have been banned for over thirty years. In 1974 the candle industry voluntarily agreed to cease the use of lead core wicks, even though they had not been officially deemed a health hazard by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
Do I need to trim the wicks?
Yes. Any live flame has the ability to produce smoke and soot. Wicks that are trimmed to 1/4 inch before each lighting will provide a more even and controlled burn and will significantly reduce the likelihood of smoke and soot.
Will CandleLogic candle wicks develop a mushroom on the tip?
They may. All wicks have to potential for developing a mushroom or a build-up of carbon deposits. When a mushroom forms, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, trim the wick to 1/4 inch and re-light.
Why does the warning label say to discontinue burning candles when 1/2 inch of the wax remains?
When most of a candle has been burned and the flame is nearing the bottom of the container or pillar, the container or pillar holder may get so hot from the flame that it could crack or shatter. Always follow instructions on each candle’s warning label and burn all candles on a heat resistant surface.
How long should I burn a candle?
Candles should not be burned for more than 3-4 hours. Pillars should always be on placed on an appropriate candle holder, votives should always be burned in an appropriate votive holder, and container candles should always be burned on a heat resistant surface.
What is the best way to extinguish a candle?
The best way to extinguish a candle is to do so with a wick dipper. A wick dipper is a metal tool designed to push the lit wick into the melt pool to put out the flame. After it goes out, use the dipper to lift the wick back up so that it is ready for the next lighting. Using a wick dipper puts candles out without the smoke and splattering that occurs when you blow too hard to extinguish a candle.
